"Babygirl: Everything You Need to Know About Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson’s Intense Thriller"
Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson's latest film, Babygirl, is generating plenty of buzz—and with good reason. The movie delves into an age-gap relationship where a woman in a position of power engages in a sexual affair with her intern. Kidman plays the powerful CEO, while Dickinson portrays the younger intern, Samuel. However, the power dynamics in the film lean more towards BDSM than a typical "boss abusing power" scenario.
In a recent interview, Kidman described the role as "liberating" but admitted she had to pause filming at one point due to the intensity of the sex scenes and the constant physical touch involved. "There was an enormous amount of sharing and trust, but also frustration," she said. She candidly recalled moments where she felt overwhelmed by the physical demands of the role, saying, "There were times when I was like, ‘I don’t want to orgasm anymore.’"
Kidman further reflected on how exhausting the experience was, explaining how she reached a point of burnout: “It was so present all the time that I was like, ‘Don’t come near me. I don’t care if I am never touched again in my life!’” In another interview with People, she talked about the importance of taking risks with the project and praised the female-led production, helmed by director Halina Reijn. Kidman described the experience as a "jump off the cliff" where she could explore new territory in a safe environment, crediting Reijn's maternal instincts for making her feel protected throughout the shoot.
Reijn, drawing inspiration from films like Basic Instinct, has described Babygirl as a "really hot movie," leaving the judgment of its quality to the audience. The film tackles complex themes of power dynamics in the workplace, with a focus on the erotic and psychological tension between Kidman's character, Romy, and Dickinson's Samuel.
This isn’t Kidman’s first exploration of an age-gap romance. Earlier this year, she starred in A Family Affair opposite Zac Efron. She’s also joined the recent wave of films exploring older women’s relationships with younger men, including Anne Hathaway's role in The Idea of You.
Set to be released by A24 on December 25, Babygirl promises to be an erotic thriller that pushes boundaries. The trailer gives a glimpse of the tense relationship between Romy and Samuel, with one standout moment showing Samuel boldly telling Romy, "I think you like to be told what to do," capturing the charged dynamics that define the film.
