A new poll shows former President Donald Trump with a narrow lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in the battleground state of Georgia. The survey, conducted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the University of Georgia, found Trump holding 47% support, compared to Harris’ 43%. However, 8% of respondents remain undecided.
The poll, which surveyed 1,000 likely Georgia voters from October 7-16, has a margin of error of 3.1%. It also revealed that 60% of participants believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, with top concerns including inflation/cost of living (19%), the economy/jobs (17%), preserving democracy (17%), immigration (14%), and abortion (8%).
This poll comes as Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger faces growing pressure to release the results of a voter roll audit he initiated earlier this year. Former Senator Kelly Loeffler, chair of Greater Georgia, expressed concerns about non-citizens potentially registering to vote, calling for reassurance that only eligible voters are casting ballots in the state.
Raffensperger previously announced a "SAVE audit" to ensure non-citizens who registered to vote are caught before they cast ballots. He has stated that non-citizens caught registering to vote could face prison terms of up to 10 years and fines of up to $100,000. The Secretary of State’s office is expected to announce the results of the audit at an upcoming press conference.
In addition to the polling results, Georgia’s ongoing voter integrity concerns have remained a prominent issue in the state. The voter roll audit, announced by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, focuses on identifying non-citizens who may have illegally registered to vote. Raffensperger has reassured voters that the audit will ensure only U.S. citizens participate in Georgia elections, noting the severe penalties for non-citizens attempting to vote. His office is preparing to release the audit results, which are expected to confirm that safeguards are in place to prevent non-citizen voting. Raffensperger has emphasized that the audit is a critical step in maintaining voter confidence, particularly as Georgia breaks early voting records ahead of upcoming elections.
