The Creator Classic Shines at East Lake

The Creator Classic Shines at East Lake

*ATLANTA* – Scottie Scheffler arrived at a bustling East Lake Golf Club practice green, where YouTube golf personalities were hard at work. To his right, Nick “Fat Perez” Stubbe of *Bob Does Sports* focused on his alignment, while Tyler Toney of *Dude Perfect* practiced his putting speed to Scheffler's left. For that moment, they all shared the spotlight.

Scheffler found a quiet spot at the back of the green, practicing alongside his coach, Phil Kenyon, in preparation for the TOUR Championship. Meanwhile, Perez and Toney made their way to the tee, trailed by camera crews and a crowd of excited fans.

YouTube golf reached a new high with Wednesday’s Creator Classic, featuring 16 of the platform’s biggest golf stars competing at East Lake on the eve of the TOUR Championship. The groundbreaking event peaked with over 110,000 live viewers on YouTube and was also broadcast on ESPN+ and Peacock. Luke Kwon clinched the win in a sudden-death playoff on the par-5 18th hole, defeating Wesley Bryan, Sean Walsh, and Roger Steele to claim the inaugural Creator Classic title.

“The response from fans and creators has been incredible,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan.

The Creator Classic marked a significant moment in YouTube golf’s growing relationship with professional golf. Earlier in the year, a similar crossover event, "The Q at Myrtle Beach," brought YouTube creators and pros together, with former PGA TOUR player Matt Atkins winning an exemption for the Myrtle Beach Classic. Professional golfers frequently collaborate with creators, forging friendships along the way. The Bryan brothers and Grant Horvat even hosted an alternative ESPN+ stream for the FedEx St. Jude Championship earlier this month.

Wednesday’s Creator Classic was especially unique, as the YouTube stars became the first to play the renovated East Lake on television, just a day before the TOUR Championship kicked off. The event attracted attention from several pros, including Joel Dahmen, who provided on-course commentary, and caddies Austin Kaiser and John Ellis, who watched Perez tee off. Akshay Bhatia viewed the action from his rental home near the course.

The competition reflected the lively, unconventional nature of YouTube golf. The event opened with ceremonial tee shots from *Barstool Sports'* *Fore Play* members Riggs, Trent, and Frankie. Canadian trick-shot artist Mac Boucher turned heads by hitting a 285-yard opening shot with a right-handed driver, despite being left-handed. Mason Nutt of *BustaJack Golf* hit driver off the deck, while Garrett Clark of *Good Good* struggled with a quintuple bogey on the par-4 12th. Roger Steele launched a 346-yard drive on the 10th, clocking a ball speed of 195 mph. Throughout the day, TV, Netflix, and YouTube crews captured every moment, and a few hundred fans stuck around as play wrapped up at dusk.

The top four finishers after eight holes of stroke play advanced to a sudden-death playoff. Bryan led with a 2-under score, while Steele, Walsh, and Kwon finished 1-under. Kwon secured the win with a birdie on the 18th, sinking a 15-foot putt.
